Dates, times, durations and coverage figures are calculated carefully from astronomical ephemerides and checked against institutional sources. They are supplied for information. Small differences may arise from rounding, exact location or later source updates. No content is a guarantee of absolute astronomical accuracy.

Solar observation safety

Looking directly at the Sun can cause permanent damage to eyesight. The visitor is responsible for selecting, checking and using appropriate eye protection correctly. Information on this site does not replace compliant solar filters or professional instruction.

The only filter-free viewing period is complete totality, from inside the path of totality, while the solar disc is fully covered. Protection must be replaced at the first returning point of light. Outside the path, this exception never applies.
